So have you heard of vision boards? They are definitely becoming more popular.

If you have heard of them - have you made or used one?

What is a vision board and how does it work?

A vision board (or sometimes called a dream board) is essentially a large poster that you create to help you achieve your goals. It contains pictures that represent your goals, dreams, aspirations.

I love creating vision boards; I find the actual process of making it therapeutic. Going through magazines and looking for inspirational photos, images and quotes. This is a photo of me creating my board at a group session.

The process is great for getting your imagination going and thinking beyond the four walls you are currently sitting in.

Be sure to make creating the board a relaxing and inspiring event – light a lovely fragranced candle, put some music on, allow yourself to focus on your life for an hour or two. We often never make time to just self reflect and truly think about our lives.

And when we don't take the time we can get stuck. If there’s one thing that keeps people stuck, it’s a lack of clarity.

  • You know you want to quit your soul draining day job to take a different career path or start your own business. Actually think about what you'd you love to do.

  • You may feel that you are lost in the busyness of life and routine and now you don’t really know yourself. Think about what actually are your passions and purpose.

  • You may want to travel. Where exactly would you like to go first? How long would you stay? What would you like to do. GET CLEAR.

With a little clarity, you can achieve any goal you can think of and some you’ve not even thought of yet! The first step is to VISUALISE what you ACTUALLY DESIRE.

You make this what is the point of a vision board. It might sound silly, but a vision board can be useful! And here’s why:

Consider what a vision board does for you:

● It forces you to decide on your goals

● It is a great planning tool that allows you to unleash your creativity and daydream in a tangible format.

● It helps you to focus - by collecting images that represent your biggest goals and keeping them within sight.

● It requires you to review your goals daily.

● It sensitizes you to opportunities that aid in the achievement of your goals.

● It keeps you inspired when boredom strikes (as it inevitably will) and reminds you of why you’re working so hard when all you want to do is chill and watch TV or go on social media

(fill in the blank of whatever makes you procrastinate!)

These are just some of the benefits of a vision board.

How to do you make a good a Vision Board?

Creating a vision board is easy—and fun!

  • You can create yours with paper and other art materials, or digitally using one of many online apps. While digital boards are definitely more portable, physical boards are often more inspiring. There’s just something about engaging all your senses that makes a tangible vision board more effective.

  • To create your board, start by collecting images that represent your biggest goals and dreams. You can look online or in magazines. What’s important is that you have get a great FEELING from looking at these images – that they excite you!

  • So what are you dreaming of for 2021? - a new home, a fabulous new dress, a new career direction, more money, health and fitness, new friends, more travel. (I think we are all looking forward to more travel after the pandemic). Find images that match your desires and add them to your new vision board.

  • Aswell, as images, you can include phrases and quotes that inspire you and keep you going when you are lacking motivation. Sometimes a few words of wisdom from someone you admire is all it takes to get you back on track after feel low or unmotivated.

  • Your vision board is a living document. Your dreams and goals will change. Some you will achieve and remove from your board to make room for bigger and better dreams. Some you will decide don’t matter so much anymore, and you’ll change them for some others.

  • It’s your vision, and it’s completely up to you what dreams you choose to follow

just be sure that you follow them.

Finally, remember this: A vision board will not magically make the images appear in your life without any action from you.

You will still have to take action to bring these images into your reality.

So once you have created your empowering vision board. What is one action that you will take today to bring one of your goals closer to you?
