The Year You Stop Playing a Supporting Role
As the year draws to a close, there’s a quiet invitation in the air:
What if next year is different? Not louder. Not busier. But more you.
For many midlife women, December brings reflection — not just on the year that’s ending, but on the roles we’ve collected over time.
We may not even realise this is what's been happening.
Are you the - Caregiver. Peacemaker. Business Owner. Support System. Reliable one. . .
(add yours)
Rewriting Your Midlife Story
Somewhere along the way, you may have slipped into the background of your own life. It's easily done and not to notice this subtle shift as it happens year by year.

Yes we're talking about the New Year
(but remember you can do this at anytime of the year) rewriting your midlife story.
It's your chance to admit to yourself want you actually would like your life to look like.
This isn't about becoming someone new, but more about remembering and recognising more of what you'd like moving your to the main character of your story.
What Main Character Energy Really Means
I know that main character energy / being the main character is definitely a trend but I use the term quite literally. It's showing up for yourself. Often easier said than done.
Main character energy for me isn’t about ego or perfection. It's NOT a look at me kind of vibe. It’s about:
Making decisions based on alignment, not approval
Choosing what matters to you
Living intentionally rather than reactively
In midlife, this shift is powerful. You have lived enough to know what doesn’t work. You have gained wisdom over the years and it's leaning into your intuition. Believing you get to choose differently.
This is often the area which can keep us stuck - building up our confidence, getting clarity on what we want next, even just being ok wanting things for ourselves.
"How to find my purpose or passion in midlife?"
"How to balance work and personal life?"
"How do I find new purpose?
How to start over in midlife?
How to deal with midlife regret?
At what age do most midlife crises happen?
Midlife sadness
When researching for this post, these were some of the questions women in midlife are asking or searching for. They are the sort of questions and topics that have come up when hosting workshops. And why I'm building a community to give a space where women can support women and creating workshops and resources.

But in the meantime, here are some ideas for now:
Releasing the Old Script
Before you can rewrite your story, you must release the old one.
Ask yourself:
What roles am I ready to retire?
What expectations no longer fit who I am becoming?
Where have I been shrinking to keep the peace?
Take some time to reflect or journal.
Letting go doesn’t erase the past — it honors it.
You are allowed to evolve beyond the current version of you.
Writing a New Chapter With Intention
Instead of setting rigid resolutions, try identity-based intentions:
I am a woman who honors her needs.
I am a woman who trusts her intuition.
I am a woman who chooses herself without guilt.
Create your own intentions that will be specific and meaningful to you. When you shift who you’re being, your actions naturally follow.
Final Thoughts
This New Year isn’t about fixing yourself. You’re not broken. It’s about being the director and writer of your life.
This is your story. Step into the spotlight.
To your success,
Kay
