Create Your own Moments of Joy

Lady smiling listening to headphone out in the open air - create your own happiness / joy

Joy as a Daily Practice

Joy and happiness doesn't always have to come from the big things - the holidays, the birthdays, the promotion etc.

It often comes from small moments here and there - a shared joke, timeout from a hectic day, enjoying your favourite drink.

The more of these little drops of joy we create, the more we make our everyday lives fun and enjoyable. We're not putting off our happiness in the now, waiting for some big event in the future. We're living and enjoying the present moment.

It's also worth remembering that it's up to us to create these fun and carefree moments in our life. It is something that is part of being intentional - intentional living. I've written another blog post on intentional living for more ideas on this.

Create your own moments of joy.

Why Joy Matters More Than Ever

Why joy is good for us. It helps to relieve everyday stress which we all have. These glimmers of fun here and there help to break tension. Overall, rather than stress building up more and more it can help to relieve everyday stress and improve our wellbeing. It may help to create a more positive outlook on life. This can then motivate us to get out and do more. And so on . . .

So how can we bring more happiness / joy into our everyday life?

Joy - " a feeling of great pleasure and happiness."

How can I be more happy?

Here are some strategies for increasing happiness in your life.

  1. Stop and Pause - Use your senses

    • Notice - colours, beauty, texture, smells, nature . . . These things are all around us and free take them in - enjoy them.

  2. Practice Gratitude

    • Being grateful for the things you have, especially remembering the small things can help to shift perspective. Write down a couple of things which you are grateful for during the day.

  3. Connect With What You Loved as a Child

    • Music, crafts, dancing, coloring—invite your inner girl to play. The sillier and more carefree the better!

  4. Create a Joy Jar

    • Write one joyful moment each day and revisit often. Use it to lift your mood on those down days.

  5. Share Joy Freely

    • Compliments, kindness, and small gestures lift everyone

  6.  Play Without Purpose

    • Do something just for fun—with no outcome attached. We can get used to only doing things for a specific outcome or as needed - for work, the family, the kids, for other people. This can become more of a chore. Do something just to do it. There is no end goal or achievement needed. Just fun!

Final Thoughts

Joy can be something you choose. It's not up to anyone else to make you happy it's up to you. Create your days and week to incorporate these little delights.

"Don’t wait for joy. Create it, enjoy it, and see where it leads you."

To your success, Kay
